How do I use the off-campus housing portal?
Visit offcampus.jefferson.edu create an account using your University email address. After verifying your email address, you will have access to search the listings using many filters including neighborhood, rate, number of bedrooms, etc.
You may also search the site to see options all over Philadelphia. We encourage you to use the East Falls campus filter if you wish to see spaces closer to the campus.
Alternatively, you can search the entire list but limit only to neighborhoods from which you are interested in commuting. Below, you'll find nearby neighborhoods and their distance from campus:

When should I start looking for off-campus housing?
While rentals in the area are typically reserved further in advance, many returning students will begin looking in March or April. Apartment complexes in the area typically have vacancies posted as they become open. Many students report that 6-8 weeks is an optimal time to reserve a space, but housing is readily available in the area even for last-minute leasing.

How do I find a roommate?
You can seek out a roommate at offcampus.jefferson.edu. You can create a profile and search for roommates under the Roommates tab.
Can I get a meal plan if I live off campus?
Absolutely! Meal plan selection for commuter students is available through the Housing Portal the week before classes begin. You can read more about the meal plan options on the Dining Services website.
What is the average rent in the area?
Rent in the area will vary greatly based on neighborhood, housing type (rent apartment vs rent house), number of roommates, and amenities. Start by creating your off-campus budget, then you can limit your search to rates that are within your budget.
What resources are available to commuters?
We have programming focused on commuter life, which includes events like Commuter Appreciation Week and a C-Cash auction where students can win prizes for attending on-campus events. We also have Commuter Assistants who advocate for commuter students.
